While the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created some new issues for many, it also contained one very promising new item: Opportunity Zones. 

Opportunity Zones were created to encourage longterm investment into low-income urban and rural communities nationwide. 

For real estate investors, this is significant news. 

But for any high-income professionals or business owners with unrealized gains in the U.S. stock market (or in other areas, such as a private business), this is also great news. 

But this is not a permanent change to the Tax Code. It is a one-time opportunity, unless Congress votes to extend the program. Until something like that occurs, you need to act this year to get all the potential benefits available to investors.
